Stop talking and make an information board!

“What time do we have to be there?” “Where is it again?” “How long is it until?”  Ever wonder why you put so much effort into creating an invitation for guests when most of the answers are right there? Don’t get me wrong, I am sure I have done this many times, but after hosting an event you realize how frustrating those questions can be.

Stop repeating yourself and create an information board!  This board will save you those countless times where you reiterate information over and over again.

An information board can give a breakdown to all the events and avoids miscommunication from occurring. I used a sturdy foam board from Dollarama to be able to staple things to it, but it is totally up to you.  You can include as much detail as you would like as in the time of departure, when the hairdresser will be arriving for the guests, what time the event is scheduled for and etc.

If you would like to get more creative, I added an envelope on my information board with printouts regarding directions/addresses to the venues.  I also added little reminders for family members and distributed some duties to cousins. Then, I just got happy go lucky and added a picture to jazz it up!

Put this information board in an area that is easily visible to anyone entering or leaving the house.  It is a handy thing to make and gives your voice some rest.  I would highly recommend this for your upcoming wedding, stop worrying about logistics and enjoy your special day!

Destination Weddings… is it for you?

Sandy beaches, intimate crowds, the mixture of cultures, poolside cocktails and a vacation for all.  Sound like something you’d like to do?  Then a destination wedding is for you!

When you initially think about planning a destination wedding, it seems so much fun, exciting and different.  However, when the actual process begins, it can become intimidating and one may lose interest.  Don’t be discouraged, if it is something you truly want, then go for it!  Yes, it requires a lot more planning, but it’s smooth sailing as soon as you get off that airplane.

There are many destinations in the world to pick from, however to pick something cost effective, all inclusive resorts are the best way to go.  The next dilemma to take care of is the type of ceremony that you want done.  In many of the Caribbean countries the resorts have packages for Christian weddings as priests are readily available.  It’s always a little more challenging for Indian weddings that require multiple days of functions and the availability of your faith’s priest.

Well, lo and behold because things are getting easier for the Indian community.  Certain countries in the Caribbean have quite the Indian community.  (Yes, other Indians chose hot weather compared to Canada to immigrate too!) For example, Jamaica and Mexico both are known to have priests located in both countries.

Next to worry about are all the other things (hair, makeup, henna, decor, photography, videography).  This is the part that can get a little pricey depending on the vendor you choose.  For hair and make up, Indian bridal dress up is unique and you want to make sure the humidity doesn’t eat your face alive!  It’s good to get someone from your hometown.   For henna, you may get lucky and the resort may have a henna artist located in the city (it’s the new fashion!).  For decor, if you choose to do a simple beach wedding, then decor may not be needed or you may be satisfied with what the local decorator on the resort may have in store.   Photography and videography is so important to invest in as these will be your memories, getting someone you trust from your hometown is always a good idea.  Many of these vendors do cut costs as you pay for their ticket to the resort.  **Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, pick us as your coordinators!**

One popular resort with the Indian community is the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun.  They have packages for traditional Indian weddings.  It’s more popular with the Sikh community as there is a Gurudwara located nearby the resort.
